FERPA

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education. FERPA defines “educational records” as records containing information in any medium-paper, electronic, microfilm, etc.– that directly relate to a student. These records are maintained by an educational institution or by a party acting for the institution. In order to protect this information, institutions must protect the systems and the data contained within those systems.

Specialized Security Services, Inc. Security Professionals performs FERPA security assessments of institutions current security environment and policies to evaluate the real and potential risks and develop solutions that will help institutions comply with the information security requirements set forth by FERPA.
