The HIPAA Security Rule establishes standards to protect electronic personal health information that is created, received, used, or maintained by organizations. The Security Rules requires there be appropriate administrative, physical and technical safety measures to ensure confidentiality and security of electronic health records. The HIPAA Security rule requires that all entities conduct a security and risk assessment of their organization.
